Logitech G710+ Review

  • 4.3 / 5
    • The good:

    • The bad:
All-plastic built; Some questionable design choices such

The Logitech G710+ can be considered one of the most well featured mechanical gaming keyboards. It uses both responsive as well as hard-wearing mechanical keys that enhance its position as a gaming keyboard.

The Logitech G710+ features six programmable keys, adjustable backlighting, a volume wheel and also a special game mode button that when pressed turns off the windows keys. The keyboard cannot be considered cheap; it is an expensive unit, but also one that is definitely worth the price. The keyboard has a plastic built, a wired connection (2 x USB), a 2m rubber coated cable, anti-ghosting keys and switchable Game / Desktop modes that change functions of certain keys according to the intended use at a particular moment. Moreover, it features removable palm rest, noise dampened keys and dedicated media keys.

The Logitech G710+ is bold looking, with an angular two tone plastic design (of black on grey), along with a splash of orange on the left side. As it is made of plastic, it is only convincing that it is not that strong. It is however, heavy and also has a rubber feet that helps hold it in one place and avoid movement, a requirement for gamers. As mentioned earlier, the keyboard has the cable routing underneath, which enables the headset cables to be connected under the keyboard. However, this could be a bit negative as it won’t be able to provide enough room for connecting thicker headphone cables. The 2m USB cable is rubber coated, making for a very sturdy and durable cable; it is also very resistant to tangling. The two USB ports, however, are too close to each other, which can be inconvenient when fitting 2 wider USB connectors at the same time.

The keyboard also has excellent backlighting, which can be pretty useful in the right situations. However, this backlighting doesn't illuminate the secondary functions that well; in particular, the number keys. The font that is used for both primary as well as secondary functions is not that impressive, either. The Logitech G710+ has a very digital look, giving square shapes to all the normally rounded characters. This is obviously a minor issue which can be boiled down to personal preference. Other than the above mentioned few drawbacks the typing experience on The Logitech G710+ is impressive. The keyboard has Cherry MX Brown switches that have rubber rings and reduce the noise that most switches make. It is also particularly responsive and soft in its keystrokes, which are two of the most important factors for the majority of users. But it is also quite hardy and hence won’t wear away like soft-touch keys generally do.

Furthermore, there is a program that needs to be downloaded for the multimedia keys and other macro functions to work on the system it is connected to. With all its features, it can be said the Logitech G710+ is a fine keyboard for hardcore gamers. While it does have a few drawbacks and a high-end price tag, it makes up for it in general functionality and product quality; two aspects that have been shining in Logitech products for a long time.
