Huawei P8 Lite Review

Huawei is one company that is known to manufacture affordable smartphones and just recently, they launched their flagship phone the Huawei P8. It didn't take long before we got the Lite version in the market and here's what you should expect from this new baby.

The Huawei P8 Lite gets most of its looks and specs from its sibling the Huawei P8. You will get 16GB of internal memory, 2GB of RAM, a 5’ 720p IPS which boasts of a pixel density of 294 ppi and a 1.5 GHz octa-core processor. You'll also find it's 5MP front facing camera good enough for selfies and video calls while the 13MP rear camera will capture those moments when your pro camera is out of reach. Of course it supports LTE and dual Sim card. The cheap android phone looks like its sibling the Huawei P8. However, as you would expect at this price range, some compromises had to be done. You won't be seeing the metal body anymore. Instead, you will have to work with the plastic faux metal frame. The extra 0.2 inches of screen are gone and now you will have to work with only 5inches for the display. You will find the Huawei P8 Lite thicker than the P8 but a bit lighter. The button arrangement is OK but you will have to remove your Sim card when you need to add an SD card.

At only 720p, it's display is just fine in terms of color reproduction but you won't get that pop you would find in a 1080p display. This is one of the drawbacks as it lags behind it's competition on the same price range such as the Alcatel One Touch Idol 3. The screen also needs a bit of excessive force to register a command. Its 13MP camera takes good photos but it takes some time to process them. It's easy to access the camera as you can press the volume button twice to get there. As you would expect there are a couple of preset modes for casual photographers.

The Huawei P8 Lite isn't the best on its price range but it's something to consider if you don't mind a few issues here and there. If you won't have a problem working with KiKat or a 720p display and need something light for everyday use, then you should consider the Huawei P8 Lite. You should note that Huawei didn't tamper with the performance and hence the Lite remains a good buy.

However, if you want a bigger display, more battery life, front stereo speakers and an 8 MP front camera, then you should consider the Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 or the One Plus One. However, you will have to put up with some compromise in the performance department. BLU Life One is another consideration for people working on a tight budget which comes at half the price of the P8 Lite with some compromises in storage and performance. All in all, the Huawei P8 Lite is good affordable smartphone but it doesn't stack well with its competition.

  • Pros:
    Good performance. Affordable. Sharp camera
  • Cons:
Outdated OS. Low resolution display. Unresponsive touch screen
Our score:
3 / 5
